Cleric Abubakar Muaviya arrested again on child abuse allegations

The Lahore police secured a four-day physical remand for cleric Abubakar Muaviya in a new child rape case filed at Shahdara Police Station.

The suspect was transferred to the police station for questioning regarding the latest child abuse allegation, with authorities asserting that he was apprehended in the act of raping a minor boy.

Ayesha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), confirmed Muaviya’s arrest in criminal case number 2441/24 dated 7/4/24 under section 376(iii), expressing gratitude towards the Inspector General of Police and the NCRC.

Muaviya had previously faced arrest in Tandlianwala, Faisalabad, on similar charges but was released after the victim’s father retracted the FIR, citing misunderstandings and forgiveness facilitated by a renowned cleric’s mediation, as seen in a viral social media video.
