Pakistan renames Islamabad highway to Iran Avenue in solidarity gesture

Pakistan has chosen to rename a newly constructed highway in Islamabad in honor of Iran during the visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, as a gesture of solidarity with the neighboring country.

According to sources, the Eleventh Avenue will now be known as Iran Avenue following the decision of the federal government. This decision was ratified by the federal cabinet based on a summary circulated by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). It’s worth noting that the construction of the Eleventh Avenue, initiated by the CDA, is underway.

The renaming process involves two phases. In the first phase, the avenue has been extended from Sector D-12 to E-11 North-East corner, including the construction of an interchange on the Khayaban Iqbal. The second phase will see its extension up to IJ Principal Road.
