Punjab CM initiates precautionary measures ahead of heavy rainfall

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to proactively prepare for anticipated rainfall across the province. The decision comes following forecasts predicting heavy rains until Monday.

In an official statement, the CM directed commissioners, deputy commissioners, and managing directors of Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) to maintain constant vigilance. She emphasized the necessity for these officials to be present in the field during all shifts.

Additionally, the chief minister urged administrative bodies and WASAs to utilize all available resources for effective water drainage. Ensuring smooth traffic flow in Lahore and other cities was highlighted as a priority, with officials instructed to take necessary measures.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of traffic wardens performing their duties diligently to assist citizens. Moreover, she instructed rescue service institutions to promptly safeguard livestock in rural areas and swiftly relocate people from vulnerable catchment areas.

The chief minister also stressed the importance of alerting residents in catchment areas through social media and mobile phone alerts. She emphasized the need for proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all residents.

Earlier this month, Pakistan and Afghanistan saw tragic loss of life due to lightning and heavy rains, with over 80 fatalities across both countries. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thirteen new deaths were reported, bringing the total death toll to 59.
