Rana Sanaullah appointed as advisor to PM on political and public affairs

Rana Sanaullah, the PML-N Punjab President, has been appointed as an advisor to the Prime Minister for political and public affairs.

The decision, announced on Tuesday, was approved by President Asif Ali Zardari on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, under Article 93(1) of the Constitution.

The statement from the Presidency also mentioned that Rana Sanaullah will hold the status of a federal minister.

Sanaullah himself confirmed this appointment during an interview on the Geo News program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, where he discussed his meeting with the Prime Minister regarding his potential role in the federal government.

It was agreed between them that the final decision would be deferred to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif upon his return from China.

This development comes just two days after the surprising appointment of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister, a move that raised eyebrows but received little criticism from the government’s allies.

Prior to this role, Rana Sanaullah served as the Interior Minister in the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government.

Despite his efforts in managing PML-N’s electoral campaign for the February 8 general elections, he faced defeat in the NA-100 constituency (Faisalabad-VI) to PTI-backed Dr. Nisar Jutt, with 112,403 votes against Jutt’s 131,996.
