Viral video: Man welcomes daughter home after divorce with banda baja

In a society where divorce still faces stigma, particularly from family members, a man in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has broken norms by joyfully welcoming his daughter back home after her divorce.

Anil Kumar and Kusumlata, proud parents, welcomed their daughter Urvi back home with open arms after her divorce. Their celebration was not just a simple reunion but a grand affair, complete with music, drums, and dance, reminiscent of a joyous wedding procession.

The entire event was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.

Have a look at it:

Urvi, a 36-year-old engineer employed at Palam Airport in New Delhi, had tied the knot in 2016. However, her marriage took a dark turn due to alleged dowry harassment by her in-laws.

Despite her efforts to salvage the relationship over eight years of suffering, including abuse and mistreatment, Urvi ultimately decided to file for divorce. Her petition was granted on February 28, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter in her life.

A message to society

Anil Kumar wanted to convey a powerful message to society about the importance of standing by daughters during difficult times. By arranging traditional ‘band baaja’ festivities, he hoped to challenge prevailing societal attitudes toward divorce and encourage greater empathy and understanding for women facing marital challenges.

The neighbors, initially puzzled by the extravagant celebration, soon understood its significance. While some mistook it for a second wedding, they later grasped the deeper message behind the festivities and applauded Anil Kumar’s gesture of unconditional love and support for his daughter Urvi.
