Ramiz Raja raises concerns about Saim Ayub’s form and slams pacers

Former Pakistan Test cricketer Ramiz Raja raised concerns about the recent performances of opening batter Saim Ayub and Pakistan’s pace bowling unit during the Ireland series.

On his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja raised doubts about the suitability of Saim Ayub for the opening position in the Pakistani lineup. He emphasized the importance of consistency and reliability at the top of the order.

“I’m not convinced that Saim Ayub provides the stability needed; while he occasionally shows glimpses of brilliance, unless he consistently delivers, disrupting the established opening partnership of Rizwan and Babar doesn’t seem justified,” remarked Raja.

Regarding Pakistan’s bowling performance in the Ireland series, he expressed concern over the team’s inability to contain Ireland’s batting lineup, highlighting the significance of this issue ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Ramiz Raja on inconsistency in bowling department

“Conceding 200 runs against Ireland raises serious concerns; it appeared our bowlers were struggling. Had they capitalized on opportunities like the chances of dismissing Rizwan and Zaman, Pakistan’s chase would have been significantly more challenging,” Raja remarked.

Ramiz Raja further pointed out the inconsistency in Pakistan’s pace bowling department since the previous year’s World Cup in India, stressing the pivotal role of bowlers, particularly pacers, in Pakistan’s traditional strengths and successes.

“The inability of Pakistan’s premier bowlers to contain runs against Ireland indicates potential challenges ahead. Our team’s success heavily relies on our bowlers, especially the pacers, who have been facing difficulties since the World Cup in India last year. Inconsistencies in delivering quality balls make the situation even more challenging,” he added.

Despite Pakistan’s victory in the second T20 match against Ireland, wherein Pakistani bowlers managed to take seven wickets while conceding 193 runs, Raja highlighted the need for improvement considering the level status of the series, with each team securing one win.

Ireland clinched victory in the first match of the three-game T20 series.
