Dinesh Karthik retires from IPL with defeat against Rajasthan Royals

Dinesh Karthik concluded his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after a defeat in the Eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday.

Hinting earlier that this season would be his last, Karthik received a guard of honor from his teammates at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although Karthik did not personally address his retirement, the IPL’s digital broadcaster, Jio Cinema, confirmed the news with a heartfelt social media post following the game.

Dinesh Karthik, who debuted in the IPL 16 years ago, is celebrated as one of the league’s finest finishers. Throughout his career, he accumulated 4,842 runs in 257 matches, including 22 half-centuries.

As the match concluded, Dinesh Karthik removed his gloves and acknowledged the cheering fans while his RCB teammates expressed their gratitude to the supporters. In a touching scene, Virat Kohli embraced an emotional Karthik, highlighting the end of an era for the franchise.

In his farewell season, Dinesh Karthik impressed with 326 runs in 15 matches, boasting an average of 36.22 and an exceptional strike rate of 187.36.
