Maldivian ministers arrested for practicing ‘black magic’ on president

Maldives police have detained two current ministers over allegations of engaging in black magic on President Mohamed Muizzu, as reported by local media on Thursday.

Shamnaz Saleem, formerly a state minister at the Environment Ministry, and her ex-husband Adam Rameez, a minister at the President’s Office, along with two others, were arrested. The police have not disclosed details regarding the accusations or the nature of the alleged black magic.

According to, Shamnaz and two others were taken into custody on Sunday and have been remanded for seven days. She was suspended from her position on Wednesday by the Environment Ministry, and Rameez was similarly suspended on Thursday. Both Shamnaz and Rameez had previously worked with President Muizzu during his tenure as the Mayor of Male City Council.

Since assuming the presidency in November last year, Shamnaz initially served as a state minister at Muliaage, the president’s official residence, before being transferred to the Environment Ministry.

Rameez, known as a close associate of Muizzu during their time at Male City Council, has kept a low profile over the past five months. No official statements have been issued by the Maldivian government or the President’s office regarding this incident.
