Punjab govt makes food adulteration a non-bailable offense

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has introduced stricter laws, making food adulteration a non-bailable offense under newly amended regulations.

The decision was announced during a meeting led by PFA Director General Asim Javed, who also serves as the Registrar of the Punjab Halal Development Agency.

Emphasizing the importance of Halal certification, Javed highlighted that all food products must now carry a Halal certificate, with the Halal logo prominently displayed on the packaging.

Failure to adhere to this requirement will invoke Article 17, which imposes severe penalties, including the potential closure of businesses for up to six months for repeated offenses.

“The Punjab government has drafted recommendations for establishing the Punjab Halal Development Agency to further strengthen these enforcement measures,” Javed stated.

He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to ensuring food safety and warned that those found guilty of food adulteration would face stringent legal consequences, including the filing of non-bailable cases.
