President Asif Ali Zardari was injured when he fractured his foot Thursday night while disembarking from his plane at Dubai Airport.
The President, who had arrived in Dubai for a private two-day visit, was immediately taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.
According to hospital sources, doctors conducted an examination and applied a plaster cast to stabilize the injury, which will remain on for four weeks.
Following the procedure, President Zardari was discharged and transferred to his residence in Dubai, where he has been advised complete rest.
In the President’s absence, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani will fulfill the responsibilities of Acting President, ensuring a smooth continuation of presidential duties.
This visit to Dubai comes amid recent travel by other prominent Pakistani leaders. Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had also recently stayed briefly in Dubai before traveling to London, and then to the United States, where he is reportedly scheduled for a medical check-up.
A spokesperson for the Presidency has confirmed President Zardari’s injury, adding that he will remain under observation as he recovers.
